The Ultimate Small Batch Homebrew Beer

I brewed one beer and I am calling it the ultimate small batch homebrew beer! It was super simple and actually really fun. Here I will go over the recipe and process.

My small batch homebrew beer recipe

This was a SMASH beer. I used dark dry malt extract, fresh hops and ale yeast. All of these ingredients I had laying around the house and didn’t really craft a special recipe for this.

I use a 1:1 ratio when making dry malt extra beers. For every one gallon of water I use 1 pound of dry malt extract.

To calculate my ingredients I did a little math. I wanted to end up with 12 ounces of final beer. One gallon is qual to 128 ounces so I need roughly one tenth a gallon. Knowing that I divided my recipe by ten giving me this:

Dry Malt Extract – 1.6 ounces

Water – 20 ounces (before boil)

Hops – One hand full (fresh hops)

1/4 tsp Ale yeast

Brew day for my ultimate small batch

As you can see my recipe isn’t too complicated for this experiment. Starting like any other brew day by filing my pot with water, I used about 20 ounces knowing there would be some boil off. Once the water came to a boil I added the malt. Finally I did a 15 minute boil and added the hops after the hot break.

Chilling the homebrew

For chilling this homebrew I simply removed it from the burner and left it to cool down over the next few hours.

Fermenting the homebrew

For my fermentation I had to find a small enough container for this. I actually used a water bottle.

It fermented for 2 weeks and developed a nice krausen.

Bottling the ultimate small batch homebrew

This was one of the easiest bottling days ever! I simply boiled a few tablespoons of water with .1 ounce of priming sugar. I capped the bottle and let it condition for 3 weeks.

Tasting the ultimate small batch homebrew beer

I was actually pretty impressed with how the brew turned out. It had a nice flavor but could have aged a little bit longer. Also, it was probably over carbonated. Overall I enjoyed the beer and will do this experiment again.
