Turning cereal into beer
I am attempting to turn cereal into beer and this was my first attempt. I am calling this one “Beerios.” Can you guess what cereal I used?
Recipe for Cereal Beer
16 Cups water Total – 8 cups for mash 8 cups to rinse
18 Ounces Cereal
1/2 pound Bavarian wheat malt extract
1/2 half ounce Fuggle hops – 45 minute and 15 minute additions
Ale Yeast

Directions
Mash the cereal in 8 cups of water at 151 degrees for 45 minutes
Rinsed the grains with 8 cups of water at 170 degrees
Mixed in .5 Pounds of Bavarian wheat malt extract – Bring to boil
Added .25 ounces of fuggle hops
Boiled for 45 minutes
Added .25 ounces fuggle hops
Boiled 15 minutes
Cooled to 70 degrees and pitched Ale yeast
Fermented at 70 degrees for 2 weeks
Bottled and conditioned for 2 weeks at 70 degrees
Tasting
While the beer wasn’t bad it also wasn’t good. I think the problem was too much Wheat Malt Extract.
I will try this beer again but modify the recipe to use light malt instead of the wheat.
It did have nice clean flavors like the hops and it was not to high on the alcohol content.
If you have any suggestions on using cereal as a specialty grain feel free to let me know!
